  3. Aurizon: Assessing physical risks
September 2020

We assessed the financial impacts from physical climate change to Aurizon’s assets between 2030 to 2050. We provided Aurizon with an understanding of physical risk impacts and how its risk profile changes over time. Our approach included:

  • Conducting asset sensitivity and exposure analysis, including data collection and stakeholder engagement at an asset and corporate level
  • Developing climate modelling for 2030 to 2050 and assessing potential physical impacts
  • Scenario modelling in the context of asset sensitivity and an assessment to maintain or adapt
  • Developing strategies for adaptation and response at an asset and network level
  • Modelling different financial risk scenarios and adaptation opportunities to inform the business strategy.

We supported Aurizon in proactively building resilience into its assets and operations, applying an adaptive approach. Our work is profiled in the 'Aurizon 2021 sustainability report'.
