Energetics has always aspired to have a positive impact on the environment. We are committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our standard business activities, and reducing the broader impact that we have on the environment. Below we have outlined some of the initiatives.
In June 2008, Energetics became one of Australia’s first consulting firms to achieve carbon neutrality through the Australian Government’s Greenhouse Friendly Program.
In 2019 we became a ‘Climate Active’ certified organisation and in 2021 we achieved a significant milestone when our science based target (SBT) was verified by the global Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Under our SBT, Energetics has committed to reducing absolute scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% before the year 2030 (from a 2018 base year), and to measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions. The target covering our GHG emissions from company operations (scopes 1 and 2) is consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C
In keeping with Energetics’ Sustainability Policy, we drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing emissions reduction, sustainable procurement and behavioural change projects. Being a sustainability role model is one of our core business values.
The National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) rates or measures the energy efficiency, water usage, waste management and indoor environment quality of a building or tenancy and its impact on the environment.
As one of our major sustainability goals, Energetics continues to improve and develop innovative projects in order to improve our offices NABERS ratings. Currently all our offices have achieve a 4.5 stars out of a possible 6.
All our larger offices (Melbourne, Sydney and Perth) have comingled recycling and general waste bins which operates through Visy. This program allows us to have better control of both our recyclable and non-recyclable waste and ensures that all paper wastes as well as plastics are recycled correctly. In addition to managing office waste Planet Ark collects our printer toner and cartridges. All A4 paper bought for the Sydney office over the 2013 and 2014 periods is carbon neutral.
