Mark Searle, group manager for energy contracts at Energetics, an energy management consulting company, said there is nothing inherently beneficial in a competitive energy market. Small businesses in particular need the resources to shop around for a good deal.

 

"The problem for smaller businesses is metering. If I become a contestable customer I will have to pay for a Code Complaint Meter, about $1000 a year. Smaller businesses often don't have the time or the energy to shop around. It depends on location, negotiating strategies and almost luck."
