The Chicago-based Gas Research Institute has taken a 20% equity stake in energy consultant Energetics. The stake gives Energetics cash to pursue its expansion in the US, following the US EPA's purchase of its One-2-Five software package.

The EPA will distribute it to the 600 large energy users who are members of its Energy Star Buildings Program. GRI manages cooperative R&D programs for 330 members and the natural gas industry in Nth America.

The R&D contract under the deal will spearhead the establishment of One-2-Five as an international energy management standard, according to Energetics.

CEO Jon Jutsen said the tie-up offers Energetics "great linkages and support".
