Carbon Disclosure Project: submissions due end of May

Companies wishing to participate in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) only have until the end of May to submit their reports. With new questions and requirements for more extensive responses companies need to start preparing their reports and emissions data now.

Recent legislation and policy developments such as the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Act have increased the profile of climate change related issues and added a potentially significant cost. Climate change poses both risks and opportunities to all companies and, like any other risk, companies that understand and effectively manage climate change impacts will have a competitive advantage over those that don’t.

The CDP offers the opportunity for companies to demonstrate their understanding and management of climate change impacts to institutional investors, governments and organisations. There are also internal benefits as preparing the submission engages staff and management in addressing an increasingly important business issue.

Energetics can assist clients in preparing a robust emissions dataset and report to ensure companies obtain their maximum potential rating. Energetics has extensive experience in drafting CDP reports for key clients, many of which fall within the ASX 100. Through this process Energetics identifies key areas for clients to enhance their climate change impact management and improve their rating in future years.
