NGER 2010/11– Key issues for reporters

14 Feb 2011Archived News Climate Change Matters

Companies preparing to report under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act (NGER) should be aware of several key changes for the coming year.

These changes will impact both new and existing reporters and include:

  • Reduction of corporate thresholds to 200 TJ / 50 ktCO2-e
  • Update of Scope 2 electricity grid emission factors
  • Reporting of uncertainty
  • Nomination of Joint Ventures
  • Reporting energy consumed through "transformations"

The reduction of corporate thresholds will require a number of new companies to report. For this group, Energetics advises early action to confirm your requirement, register with the Department and prepare your inventory.

Energetics has reviewed the current requirements and changes to the determination and summarised the details of these changes and their impact (see pdf "Key issues for reporters" below). Existing reporters are encouraged to review these issues to determine the impact on their inventory.

Energetics also reminds existing reporters that all registered corporations must provide a report to the Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer. If however, a registered corporation’s group fails to meet a threshold for a particular financial year, the report does not need to include greenhouse gas emissions and energy data; only information about the controlling corporation, group members and facilities.
