Commonwealth Energy Efficiency Opportunities Assessment Program

The Energy Efficiency Opportunities Assessment Program (EEOA) is being designed to encourage the identification and uptake of commercial energy efficiency opportunities among Australia's largest commercial and industrial energy users.

Commencing in 2006, companies that consume over 0.5 Peta Joules (PJ) per annum (about $10 million in electricity costs) will be required to undertake mandatory Energy Efficiency Opportunities Assessments and report publicly on the outcomes every five years. The technical portions of these reviews will be required to be equivalent to a Level 3 Energy audit under Australian Standard 3598:2000.

For further information on the EEOA program, read the Energy Efficiency Opportunities Bill, introduced into Federal Parliament on 14 September 2005.
