Great Barrier Reef Foundation

The Great Barrier Reef Foundation, in conjunction with Energetics, has developed a program called ZAP (ZooX Ambassador Program) that engages and motivates employees to do their bit, both personally and professionally, in the fight against climate change.

ZAP is a comprehensive, FOUR stage learning journey which takes employees from the workplace to the Reef and back again. Anchoring an employee engagement program to a Reef experience, which is itself tied to a research project, provides the most authentic context for a program about how climate change is directly affecting the Australian landscape and how those effects can be addressed by everyone in the workplace – today – as part of a working commitment to sustainability.

Three Energetics Ambassadors participated in a four-day field trip to the Heron Island Research Station in August 2008 to work with marine biologists to undertake reef research, taking part in a series of scientific and sustainability workshops.

The ambassadors were educated in situ about the effects of climate change that are already being felt on the Reef and were an integral part of a larger discussion about sustainable business and personal practices. Our ambassadors have now returned to the work place and are ready to share their experiences and work within the business on new and practical sustainability initiatives.
