The future of voluntary carbon offsets under the CPRS (02/2009)

With the introduction of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) due to commence 1 July 2010, the Federal Government has announced that the Greenhouse Friendly™ program will no longer accept new applications, and current abatement projects will be managed only to the end of their deeds or until 1 July 2010. It is Energetics' view that we need a vibrant voluntary offsets market in Australia, as many companies want to voluntarily reduce their carbon footprint and want to choose offsets based on a number of criteria. Energetics' believes that the Government should continue to support the growth of the voluntary carbon market, even though they are introducing the CPRS .
Energetics is currently working on our submission commenting on the Federal Government’s “National Carbon Offset Standard Discussion Paper”.
