Guidelines released for the Energy-Intensive Trade-Exposed industry assistance program (02/2009)

Friday 20 February 2009

The Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme White Paper discussed a program of assistance that will be provided to eligible emissions-intensive trade-exposed (EITE) activities under the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme. This month, the Federal Department of Climate Change has released the Guidance Paper for the “Assessment of activities for the purposes of the emissions-intensive trade-exposed assistance program”.

What you need to know:
Under the program, economic activities will undergo a preliminary assessment process which will enable the Government to determine whether parts or the whole of a production process meet the EITE criteria for assistance.

Eligibility is determined on the basis of both emissions intensity and trade exposure requirements.

This preliminary assessment requires entities responsible for potential EITE activities to provide data to determine the eligibility of the activity. If you believe your business has an eligible activity that is not listed in the table below, Energetics can assist your business to obtain a preliminary assessment before 13 March.

The activities below have already been assessed and will go straight to the formal assessment stage. To prepare for the formal assessment, it is vital that data collection commences as soon as possible.
