June 2008 - Reaction of Energetics to the new NSW Action Plan for Energy Efficiency

Energetics is Australia’s leading climate change and energy solutions company, which has been behind some of the biggest energy savings in corporate Australia over the last 25 years.

"Energetics welcomes the NSW State government's 'Action Plan for Energy Efficiency' released today - it is recognition that energy efficiency is a critical component of climate change policy.

"These measures will help to drive business in NSW to become more energy efficient. As California has shown, it is possible to curb energy growth. This new action plan should help NSW to reverse the current trend of 2.5% annual growth in energy demand."

"NSW is currently spending around 6 to 7 billion dollars every year on non-transport energy - reducing these costs will help business profits. This is particularly important at a time of uncertainty about the costs of carbon and high inflation."

"The package is a good start as it targets all sectors of the economy, reaffirms the government's commitment to improving its own energy efficiency, and recognises training and capacity building assistance for business with targeted funding."

"The measures to train tradesmen and businessmen in how to identify and implement energy savings is crucial. Many businesses know they should cut energy costs - but they don't know how to make it happen."

"A push to improve the efficient use of energy will benefit consumers and business - it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and relieve the pressure on the state's energy supply infrastructure."

Energetics will be analysing the package today and is available for further comment
