Energetics' Newsletter - Energy Update (05/2009)
This Energetics' newsletter covers a range of issues relating to energy and carbon management: the Federal Government's focus on energy efficiency and energy security, and understanding upcoming increases to energy costs.
New Steps towards a National Strategy for Energy Efficiency
A national approach to energy efficiency is taking shape following the April meeting of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), and more recently with new funding announcements in the Federal Budget. Energetics believes that these new energy efficiency initiatives are an important opportunity for all large energy users to update their energy effiency strategies. Click here to view
Understanding regulated energy cost increases and how they apply to different sites
From 1 July, there will be some significant increases in energy costs, especially in NSW and WA. Given that reports in the media often generalise when they discuss movements in energy costs, and mainly refer to domestic and small energy users, it can be unclear and confusing for larger energy users.
This article is intended to help larger energy users understand the differences between domestic, commercial or industrial scale energy costs. It is also important to understand what is considered a small site or large site, and which sites are on tariff. Click here to view
Energy security - a focus for the Federal Government
With increasing energy supply challenges globally and domestically, the Federal Government has released the National Energy Policy Framework - Strategic Directions Paper. The Paper is designed to set the scene for the development of an Energy White Paper, scheduled for release by the end of 2009.
It is intended that this White Paper will set out a wide-ranging policy framework that outlines short and medium term actions for government and industry to ensure Australia's energy needs continue to be met into the future. Click here to view
