March 2002 Newsletter - Mandatory Renewable Energy Target

The Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act was passed in
December 2000. It is designed to increase the amount of
renewable energy in Australian Electricity supplies by
9,500 GWh by 2010.

This program is a federal scheme introduced with penalties for non-compliance. The Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) is charged with the responsibility for administering the ACT.
